Role Overview

Job Title: Controller

Location: Remote

About the Role:

We’re looking for a Controller to own the financial infrastructure of a high-growth digital media company. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role — you’ll manage full-cycle accounting, ad revenue reconciliation, FP&A, and tax coordination, while building the processes and controls that scale with us. You’ll work directly with leadership and have visibility into every corner of the business.

Responsibilities:

  • Full-cycle accounting — AR/AP, general ledger, month-end close, and reconciliations. You set the standard for accuracy and timeliness.
  • Ad revenue reconciliation — We run multiple revenue streams across ad platforms and partner deals. You’ll own the AR side of that complexity and make sure what we’re owed matches what we’ve recorded.
  • Revenue recognition — ASC 606 and ASC 340 are second nature to you. We use tooling to automate deferred revenue and commission schedules, but you’ll be the one who understands what’s happening under the hood and flags anything that looks off.
  • Revenue finance & reporting — Own the reports that keep sales and leadership honest: pipeline aging, renewal tracking, bookings vs. billed reconciliation, and net revenue retention. You’ll be the one connecting what’s in the CRM to what’s hitting the books.
  • FP&A support — Maintain the budget model, track actuals vs. forecast, and write variance commentary that actually tells the story. Leadership will rely on your analysis to make decisions.
  • Financial reporting — Monthly and annual financial statements and reporting packages, board-ready and management-ready.
  • Tax coordination — Manage the relationship with our external tax accountant. Clean books, organized schedules, no surprises at filing time.
  • Process & controls — Build the financial infrastructure that scales with us. Document everything. Fix what’s broken before it becomes a problem.
  • New Ventures — You will work with leadership on setting up accounting and FP&A infrastructure for new, ancillary ventures.
  • Vendor compliance — Collect and maintain W-9s for all vendors and contractors, and manage annual 1099 filing in coordination with our external tax accountant.

Required Skills:

  • 7–10+ years of accounting experience, with demonstrated ownership of a full close cycle.
  • CPA preferred; strong technical accounting background required.
  • Strong command of GAAP, including ASC 606 revenue recognition.
  • Experience with accounts receivable, commission reconciliations, and multi-stream revenue tracking.
  • Comfortable with FP&A fundamentals: budget maintenance, actuals vs. forecast, and variance analysis.
  • Experience supporting annual audits or external tax preparation.
  • W-9 and 1099 management experience.
  • Detail-oriented with a bias for process documentation and clean records.
  • Self-directed and comfortable operating autonomously in a remote environment.
  • Experience with Ramp, Gusto, or similar fintech platforms is a plus.

Benefits:

  • Competitive salary. Salary for the role is commensurate with experience and depends on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience.
  • Medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life insurance.
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA).
  • 401k.
  • Unlimited PTO, paid holidays, parental leave.
  • Work from anywhere with a good internet connection.
  • Opportunity to work with a fun and passionate team and be a stakeholder in building something truly special in the media industry.
